can it already be 2009?! i know they say the years go by faster as you get older so i suppose i'm finally old enough to believe that. 2008 passed by so quickly for us. it was filled with all the busyness that goes along with four children, now ages 7, 5, 3 and 1.
a great joy of this past year has been getting to know baby nathaniel's sweet personality. he is learning to walk as he takes a few wobbly steps in a row. john has wondered what makes a child who can quickly crawl anywhere, finally decide to stand up and try walking. having watched three children learn to walk, it is not a very quick or easy process. but they keep getting up and taking another step...even after those really bad falls. you know the ones where they have the tile grout lines from the floor imprinted on their foreheads. well, maybe that is just at our house.
seriously though, i am amazed at their endurance, their willingness to simply keep at the task. then i am a little embarrassed at how quickly i lose my excitement at starting something new...how quickly i give up when there is even the slightest resistance. i won't bother listing all my past new years resolutions that never made it beyond january, but this year i commit to being more like my youngest son. yes, he is only one year old...but, like him, i will just keep putting one foot in front of the other. no matter how hard i fall on my face, i will get back up again and take another step. bumped and bruised, i commit to keep on walking on this path God has called me to as His child, as a wife, and as a mother.
so i close by borrowing john's life verse from philippians 3..."forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, i press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

i just turned 37, but i try not to act that old. i am so excited about how God will make a way for us to impact lives in 2009. i simply must pause and offer humble thanks for your support and encouragement of the calling on our lives.
together, we are making a difference!
until next time-

| pressing on |
|
these are days of faith, trust, and conviction. our faith is in the unwavering character of Christ. our trust is in the importance of the calling He has placed upon our lives. our conviction is that we will continue to press on and be about the Father's business regardless of financial challenges.
we will go when the invitation is given. we will serve when the door is opened. we will bring healing truth where lies have festered. God will move as only He can.
will you join us?

| "ucf" stands for opportunity |

you may have noticed there are ucf basketball dates listed on my events calendar. while there is no denying that i am as big a ucf fan as you will ever meet (gators what? seminoles who?), these dates are actually working engagements for me.
i am serving my beloved alma matter as the emcee for home hoops contests. no, i am not the guy who says "jermaine taylor goes to the line for two shots." i am the guy who gets the crowd involved during media timeouts and runs the point during half-time festivities and just generally acts goofy for the benefit of keeping things entertaining.
we can all agree that acting goofy isn't much of a stretch for me. if you've never been to a ucf game, then come on out and see me do my thing. you might even become a fan of the knights!
